On August 18 and 19, the VDI Autonomous Driving Challenge took place, a competition for young talents for autonomous driving model cars. A special highlight this year was the impressive venue: the DEKRA Lausitzring.
The atmosphere was lively and the setting unique - especially impressive was the fact that a DTM race took place at the Lausitzring on the same weekend as the VDI ADC. The visitors not only had the opportunity to see model racing cars in action!
A total of seven teams took up the challenge and brought their 1:8 scale model cars to the race track, which was modeled after the layout of the Lausitzring.
The real success story was written by the team ADC from Bochum, Germany, who went from zeros to heroes. Despite finishing last in the previous challenge, Team ADC managed to win a thrilling head-to-head race. Their outstanding performance was impressive across the board.

What a weekend of thrills and innovations at this year's VDI Autonomous Driving Challenge! With excellent support from Dekra, the competition was spectacular. Despite high temperatures and difficult lighting conditions for the 3D cameras, all teams put up a brave fight with their model cars.
It was impressive to see how much the technical level had improved since last year. Special highlights were Team Escuderia from Cologne, who shone with a basic version of the MXcarkit, and Smart Tube from Berlin, who presented their promising algorithm. Because the performances were so close, the jury had a hard time assigning placements and the tension was high. The well-deserved overall victory went to Team ADC from Bochum, who impressed with top lap times and outstanding acceleration. Congratulations also to Team DUE from Duisburg for a courageous overtaking maneuver that earned them second place, and to third-place Team M_DynaMUCs from Munich for their impressive team performance.
Special recognition went to Team OScar from Osnabrück for their innovative design and Team SAM from Munich for their bold approach.
The final highlight was the impressive awards ceremony at the Lausitzring, where Dekra and Uwe Burckhardt, Head of Test and Event at DEKRA Lausitzring, presented the trophies.
Thanks a lot for the great support!
We are already looking forward to next year, when the VDI ADC 2024 will bring us together again - for more innovation, passion and competition!
